Cross God ?

“My God why forsake me?”
Have we known abandonment
when all seems helpless
and the valley dark?
when the veil of tears
and the agony of loss
cloud the spirit’s eye?
Yet does God abandon us,
‘turn His face away’
As one song has it?
No, never! if God can say to us:
‘I will never leave you or forsake you’,
then will He turn away?
So, on that ancient hill
we find three crosses
but four figures,
for Father is there,
holding His Son
as tightly as He can,
wiping away the tears,
looking into failing eyes,
stretching out His arms...
speaking words of love
as He did so long before:
‘I will never forsake you.’
